What is beta testing?

Beta testing is a program presented by the McAfee Quality Assurance team. We provide you with new software, free, so you can test it and give us your feedback before the software is officially released to consumers. With your feedback, you can help us fine-tune our products, and ensure that we release the best possible software.

How do I test McAfee’s corporate beta products?

I paid for a subscription, but the expiration date on the beta software and on my subscription software is different!

For privacy reasons, the beta software has an expiration date that is different from the one for your McAfee subscription software.

What if I don't get email from the beta program?

There are many reasons: you may have unsubscribed from McAfee’s mailing list; your email program may be blocking McAfee’s email, or marking it as spam or junk; or your incoming email folder is full. You can, however, read the beta newsletters on the Beta Message Board. Or, write to beta@mcafee.com and ask to receive email from the Beta Testing Program.

I can't see some screens on the beta website. Can you help?

Your browser's popup blocker may be blocking screens on the beta website. You can modify your Internet Explorer settings to view these screens:
  1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Privacy tab, then click Settings.
  3. Under Filter Level, select Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups.
  4. Click Close, then click OK.

What happens if I keep the beta software installed beyond its expiration date?

It depends on the beta software. Please visit the McAfee Home & Home Office Beta Software Expiration page for information.

I'm puzzled! The McAfee Virtual Technician reports that I have no McAfee products installed, but I'm sure that I do!

If you installed McAfee software from a partner website, the McAfee Virtual Technician may not recognize that software. However, the McAfee Virtual Technician does collect information, or logs, about your installed McAfee software.

What if I find an issue with the beta software?

What if I think I have a virus or other malware while using the beta software?

Please visit http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/submit-sample.aspx and use webimmune to submit a sample. Preserve your submission ID number. Then log a bug with your submission ID number. Do NOT submit your sample on the bug reporting page.
